“Winter” or “spring cleaning” - words that mean a lot of chores and drudgery for a busy housewife, especially, when there is no one around to lay a helping hand. Washing up the curtains is just one of the works that need to be done.

Besides, curtains are nothing less than an investment for a room, protecting it from the sun and external noises, guaranteeing your privacy and saving energy - not to mention the elegance they afford to our personal space. So, they worth a little care and attention, don’t they?

If the mere thought of having to unhang them and wash them up frightens you, we have good news for you! Check how you can clean up your curtains in 6 straightforward and easy moves!

  1. The first thing you must do is, of course, to unhang the curtain: Remove all the connection parts and lose the cord from the driver.
  2. Next, take it out in the breeze carefully and shake it to remove as much dust as possible.
  3. Then, you need to decide, based on the instructions given by the manufacturer, the type of the fabric and its texture, whether they will be hand-washed or in your washing machine.

    - If they need to be hand-washed, use strictly cold water and make sure your detergent has fully dissolved in the water before even placing the curtains in the basin.
    - Don’t rub them! You may ruin their texture and design, and maybe even wash out their colour in some points!
    - If, on the other hand, you choose to use a washing machine, make sure you pick the delicate cycle.

  4. Cleansing needs to be very thorough. Make sure there is no trace of lather left on the curtain’s surface before hanging it up to dry. It would be nice to wring it manually and thus minimise the time they will have to remain under the sun.
  5. If their fabric needs ironing, you will have to do it while it is still a bit damp inside. This will help the steam go deep into the fabric, affording a much better result.
  6. Finally, before hanging them up, dust thoroughly the corresponding casing and the curtain rod. It would be a shame to stain them moments after finishing the ironing!
